RCA youth Mural
Rotary Centre for the Arts | Deep dive into the creation of the RCA Youth Mural Project | 2024, Kelowna BC
Local Syilx artist Sheldon Pierre Louis and co-facilitator, Kaylyn Hardstaff connected with teachers from three School District #23 schools: Kelowna Secondary School, Okanagan Mission Secondary, and Ecole George Elliot Secondary to create the RCA Youth Mural Project. Students attended workshops with the artsit and co-facilitator to brainstorm thematic ideas. Sheldon created a design based on the students ideas and together, Sheldon, Kaylyn, and the student group painted the 256 sq ft mural. The students were passionate about the environment in the Okanagan, showing how the seasons pass through the dry hills, and show casing the diversity of arts and culture in their community. This project was made possible by funding from the Tony Quo Vadis Foundation.

imaginary Garden Mural
Parkallen Community League | 2019 Garden Mural Project | 2019, Edmonton AB
The Imaginary Garden mural brought residents of Parkallen together to create the community’s second rink mural. The Artist, Kaylyn Hardstaff ran four workshops to create images for the mural, asking each participant, “what would be in your imaginary garden?” Drawings from each participant were used to create the composition. The community of Parkallen, where Kaylyn grew up, also celebrated it’s 60th Anniversary that summer. The 575 sq ft mural spans the south side of the community hockey rink and sits behind the community garden. This project was made possible with the City of Edmonton Community Mural Program Grant and the Edmonton Arts Council Neighbourhood Renewal Grant.

hardisty elementary mural
Hardisty Elementary | Hardisty Elementary Junior High School Mural | 2018, Edmonton AB
The Hardisty Elementary School was created in collaboration with grades 1-6 at the Elementary school. The Artist, Theodora Harasymiw and her assistant Kaylyn Hardstaff ran workshops with each grade to create the drawings for the composition. Each grade was then brought in to assist with painting. Kaylyn guided children on how to paint when they came in from each class, and helped with prepping and painting.
argyll park mosaic
Argyll Community League| Argyll Community Mosaic Mural | 2018, Edmonton AB
The Argyll Community League commissioned a 150 sq ft, 30 ft long mosaic bench for their park renual project. Lead artist Theodora Harasymiw was assisted by Kaylyn Hardstaff in building the mosaic, installing the piece, and grouting. This design of the mosaic had elements of te near by Mill Creek Ravine that runs parallel to the park.

Edmonton Sun | Community Mural for a Positive Parkallen | 2017, Edmonton AB
The Parkallen Rink Mural mural brought together residents of Parkallen to create a mural that would reduce graffiti at the community hockey rink. The lead artist, Theodora Harasymiw, assisted by Kaylyn Hardstaff, ran three workshops to create images for the mural, asking each participant to draw their favourite part of the community. People ages 4 - 85 drew a wide range of images based on their houses and beloved spots around the neighbourhood. Kaylyn assisted with prepping, painting and installation of the 575 sq ft mural. The piece spans the north side of the community hockey rink and faces the community basketball court and playground.
